last night i arrived home to find some absolutely puny trees from the arbor day society. i'm a little irked, its far too cold to plant them and as the arbor day society—shouldn't they know better?

not sure yet what to do with them.
plant them? is it too cold? how do i know?

a more exciting mailbox find was a catalog from Burnt Ridge Nursery—a nursery located in washington specializing in unusual varieties of fruit and nut plants. cue the day dreams of owning some edible acreage with hazelnut and blueberry hedgerows

the perils of fall

monday we had a windstorm with 60 mph winds.
the ugly locust tree in my backyard split in half and took out the neighbors fence and another neighbors powerline. so now i have a mess of a tree on my hands that needs to be taken out. oh my.

unfortunately all my family is out of town so i have no resources of advice.

i'll be glad to have it gone. its ugly and dying.
and in its stead i can plant a better looking tree—a dogwood perhaps? something larger?

oh how i wish it were spring.
